Arthur Ravenel (an ex-congressman, state legislator, and former Congressman) has passed away. He helped to build South Carolina’s Republican Party and raise money for the bridge that commands the Charleston skyline. He was 95.

In a brief statement, his family said that he had died on Monday. However, the family did not provide any cause.

Ravenel served six decades as a public servant, being elected to the State Senate, House, and Congress. After retiring, he ran unsuccessfully for Governor.
