Re “Trump Charged With 34 Felonies in Hush-Cash Case” (nytimes.com, April 4):

Whether or not one loves or detests Donald Trump, the spectacle of a former president showing in a Manhattan courtroom to reply to legal costs is tragic from a historic perspective. It perpetually tarnishes and diminishes the workplace of the presidency and, by extension, the nation itself.
