Gov. Gavin Newsom ratified Nancy Skinner’s bill, a fellow Democrat, in the Senate on Sept. 29, 2022. Thus, it was removed from law that all police, highway patrol and corrections officers must be U.S. citizens.
It was implemented on January 1. This means that foreign nationals may now be able to check the identities of American citizens.
